Twitter: NO ADS THIS YEAR

TWITTER: NO ADS THIS YEAR

Twitter has no intentions on putting advertisements on their website this year. Co-founder of Twitter, Biz Stone said that Twitter was making enough money right now and there is no need for advertising, Their main focus is to improve the social networking and add more things to the website to intrigue more users. I personal like Twitter. I dont usually use Twitter to talk to friends but i do use it to watch what celebrities are doing. Yes, i know i am a loser, but they are so much more interesting then us, normal folk. Im glad Twitter is going so well and don't need other advertisements on their site.

  1. This sounds like either they have enough financial funds or support to stop advertisements OR they're pulling a ballsy move just to experiment to see if they can float alone without being fed advertisement funds.

  2. I don't really understand why a company would do this, whether they are making 'enough' money or not, why would they stop doing something that could potentially make them more? But then again I don't know if they were using advertisements on their site prior to this decision; I've never used Twitter before, never been to the website, I don't even know how they operate, so I don't have much to go on.

  3. Because of your article I visited Twitter for the first time! I do like the simplicity of the site, but it seems like there is plenty of room for advertisement that wouldn't be too much of a distraction. I'm confused by their business model. If they don't have advertisements on the site and they don't charge to use their service, how do they make money?

The only thing I can figure out is if it's like a new radio station, they play less commercials so more people listen. Once a lot of people know about it, they can start to put more commercials on and make a higher profit because they have a bigger audience.

Maybe Twitter plans on doing the same thing, but it seems they would need a lot of investors to keep the site going until they decide they have enough users to start running ads.

  4. I agree with what Lauren said. Why would a company NOT want to make more money if they could? Also, Twitter is a free web service so I'm also confused on the fact on how they make their profits? I've never heard about Twitter before so much as I did this past year with radio/tv shows (such as E!) talking about celebrities and Twitter. I've never used a Twitter, but I have been on the site and found it relatively the same to facebook.. minus all the cool facebook features excluding status updates. That's essentially what Twitter is, right? A place to update your status at all times of the day?

  5. I'm rather impressed that Twitter isn't going to push advertising. It kind of gets super old to be on a web-site and have to look at all the random, stupid advertisements that come up. It also says a lot of how much money they must have because if they aren't advertising than they obviously don't need the money.

  6. That's impressive that they don't feel the need to advertise. Wish could the said could be said for others like TV stations. Less ads would be better! I've never checked twiter out though I said I would long ago. Now that there are no ads that may bother me, this could be the time to take a peek.
